We're excited to return to Black Diamond the weekend of August 7–9 for the Paradise Golf Triple Crown of Golf, where members will play their own ball throughout the event. THE IMPORTANCE OF TEMPO WHEN SWINGING A GOLF CLUB |
|
When golfers think about improving their swing, they often focus on mechanics such as grip, posture, or swing plane. While those are all important, tempo is what ties everything together. Tempo controls the rhythm, sequencing, and repeatability of the golf swing.
One fascinating fact is that nearly every PGA Tour professional—regardless of how fast or slow they swing—maintains a 3:1 tempo ratio. This means the backswing takes approximately three times longer than the downswing from takeaway to impact. Players like Ernie Els and Nick Price have very different swing speeds, but both maintain this same consistent rhythm.
Most amateur golfers struggle because their tempo constantly changes. Their swings may become rushed or overly slow, making it difficult to repeat solid shots. A consistent tempo helps improve every part of the swing by:
A simple way to practice is by using your own internal metronome. Count "one one-thousand" during your backswing, briefly pause at the top, then count "two one-thousand" as you begin the downswing. Developing a repeatable rhythm can lead to more consistent ball striking and lower scores.

You can register for one league OR two leagues — whatever works best for your schedule. Please note: Registration closes at noon on the day of each league.
We are also exploring the addition of a Sunday afternoon Couples 9-Hole League for the summer. Stay tuned for more details as those are finalized.
