For a right-handed golfer, switching to a left-hand (lead hand) dominant feel during chips and pitches can dramatically improve consistency around the greens. While it may feel unfamiliar initially, the biomechanics behind this technique are sound and can help eliminate many common short-game mistakes. The same concept applies to left-handed golfers, who should allow their right hand and arm (lead side) to guide the motion. 1. It Pulls the Club Through ImpactOne of the biggest causes of poor chips and pitches is excessive trail-hand involvement. When the trail hand dominates, golfers often try to help the ball into the air by scooping or flipping the clubhead through impact. This motion adds unwanted loft and makes contact inconsistent. By allowing the lead arm to control the swing, the golfer pulls the club through the hitting zone rather than pushing it. This helps maintain a stable lead wrist and promotes cleaner, more predictable strikes. 2. It Encourages Proper Shaft LeanQuality short-game shots typically feature the hands slightly ahead of the clubhead at impact. This subtle forward shaft lean allows the club to interact with the turf properly and create consistent spin and trajectory. When the trail hand dominates, the clubhead often passes the hands too early, reducing shaft lean and increasing the likelihood of thin or chunked shots. A lead-hand dominant motion naturally keeps the handle moving forward through impact. 3. It Creates a Consistent Swing RadiusThe lead arm serves as the primary radius of the golf swing. When that arm remains stable and connected throughout the motion, the bottom of the swing arc becomes more predictable. Golfers who rely heavily on the trail hand often experience changes in wrist angles and arm structure that alter the swing radius. This inconsistency can lead to poor contact. Drill: Lead-Hand Only ChipsA great way to develop this feel is by hitting short chips using only your lead hand. For right-handed golfers:
For left-handed golfers, simply reverse the drill and use only your right hand. Many golfers are surprised by how solid the contact becomes when the lead side controls the motion. The club's bounce works more effectively, turf interaction improves, and distance control becomes easier. Final ThoughtWhether you are right-handed or left-handed, allowing your lead side to guide chips and pitches can improve contact, consistency, and confidence around the greens. Instead of trying to push the ball toward the target, focus on letting your lead arm pull the club through impact and allow the club to do the work it was designed to do.

You can register for one league OR two leagues — whatever works best for your schedule. Please note: Registration closes at noon on the day of each league.
We are also exploring the addition of a Sunday afternoon Couples 9-Hole League for the summer. Stay tuned for more details as those are finalized.

COURSE CONDITION UPDATES As part of maintaining top playing conditions throughout the summer, several partner clubs will be completing their scheduled aerification and maintenance programs over the coming months. We encourage all members to review the current aerification schedule before booking tee times so you can plan accordingly.
